Midori Holland

Midori was introduced to luge by her grandfather who was an official during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and he wanted one of his six grandchildren to try the sport. Midori stepped up and was glad she did. But the dream was ignited before grandpa got involved. Midori’s dad worked for VANOC during the 2010 Olympic Games and she loved going to his office to see the mini-models of all the venues in the lobby. It was this time around the Olympic movement and watching the competition in her backyard that sparked the dream. She has slid for the last nine years since that first trip down the Whistler Sliding Centre track when she took a Learn to Luge program at age eight. Did You Know…Midori loves animals, especially dogs. Her favourite track is Whistler…her hero is her Aunt Diana. Di is a close family friend and second mom who let Midori live with her for most of her high school years to eliminate driving. During a big chunk of her childhood she wanted to go to culinary school to become a pastry chef. Outside of Luge…Midori has always been very active. She swam competitively, played field hockey from Grades 1 to 10, and loves skiing in the winter. She loves wakeboarding and wake surfing in the summer. When not recreating, she likes to cook, read and write and is a part-time bookkeeper/accountant in the summer months.
