Frank Soccal has been developing Canada’s next generation of elite luge athletes since 2016 as Next Gen Coach.

Soccal, who provided coaching support for Canada’s medal winning luge squad at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, has been competing and coaching in luge internationally since 1991. Growing up in Winterberg, Frank was a member of Germany’s Junior National Team in 1996 where his best result came at the 1999 Junior World Championships where he won a silver medal. He went on to compete on the National B-Team from 2001-03 before switching to coaching. 

Frank has brought his knowledge of the world-leading German system with him to Canada where the junior luge program has made significant progress under his guidance. Teenage athletes under Frank’s guidance have regularly graduated onto the World Cup circuit.

Frank holds a technical diploma in physics. He also has a diploma in business administration.
