BACKGROUND: Canada's combined Junior and Senior National Luge Team consists of 11 male and female athletes who will be representing Canada during a seven-week tour of Germany, Norway and Austria at various Junior and Senior Luge World Cup events. The national team is being led by Head Coach Marie Luise Raine (Italy) and assisted by fellow countryman, Karl Brunne, who is providing technical assistance in sled construction. Along witha strong Canadian coaching staff, this year's team holds much promise to build on their collection of individual and team medals earned in the 1998/99 season.

Following the team introduction and remarks by CODA President, John Mills, the coaches and athletes will be available for interview and photo opportunities. Press kits with athlete biographies and story leads will be provided.

Calgary International Airport's White Hat Volunteer Hosts will be providing a colourful Calgary send-off for the athletes shortly after the press conference as the team boards their Air Canada flight to Frankfurt, Germany. STRONG PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
