Olympic-Bound Luge Athletes Invite Media to Barbeque, Test-Drive of Summer Sleds on Calgary's Olympic Track
-S

Media Advisory(MEDIA NOTE: Due to cold and rainy weather conditions forecasted for Tuesday, August 23 in Calgary, the Canadian Luge Association has postponed its summer media/luge training event and barbecue until Friday, August 26 from 12 noon to 1 p.m.)

Canada's high-performance luge athletes will be replacing the steels on their sleds with rollerblade wheels for a summer training session on the Olympic Track in Calgary, August 26, 2005, from 12 noon to 1 p.m.

In an effort to fully prepare Canada's top luge athletes to compete against the international powers in the sport for the Olympic year, the Canadian Luge Association has been experimenting with wheel luge training on the Olympic Track throughout the summer months - more time on the sled and runs down the track is crucial to the year-round preparation needed for achieving excellence on the world stage.

The Canadian Luge Team, who reaches speeds over 100 km/hour on the rollerblade wheels, are inviting media to Canada Olympic Park for a barbecue around their final on-track summer session, and to discuss the Olympic year including interesting athlete stories; Olympic qualification criteria, and the team's strategy in the final six-month journey towards Torino, Italy.

Media representatives will also have an opportunity to try the summer luge, with the athletes, at the completion of the training session.
