Luge Canada

Second annual "Patch for Luge" race aims to raise funds to help young sliding athletes

Media Advisory
WHAT:

It's the fastest sport on ice and corporate Calgary is up for the challenge. Teams from local businesses will be taking the slide down the icy track at Canada Olympic Park on Thursday, December 1, for the "Patch for Luge" race and fundraiser.

Now in its second year, the "Patch for Luge" event helps to raise funds to assist the Olympic dreams of the approximately 30 young athletes on the Canadian development and novice luge teams. All proceeds from the event are used for equipment such as sleds, helmets and racing suits, and to help offset coaching and travel expenses.

Teams from the oilpatch and other industries will be vying for podium finishes as they experience the sheer adrenaline rush of sledding down the Olympic track; and, most importantly, they will provide a boost to the podium dreams of Canada's young luge athletes.
