Canada Wins Silver in Team Event

At the World Junior Luge Championships in Igls, Austria earlier today, the Canada 1 Team claimed the silver medal, just one point behind the Austria 1 Team which won the gold on their home track. Tied for third place was Austria 2 and USA 1.

Sliding for Canada 1 were Kyle Connely (men's singles), Nicole Simon (women's) and the doubles team of Grant Albrecht and Mike Moffat. In the Team event, points are allocated for each finish position in each of the three race categories. Austria 1 accumulated 85 points, Canada 1 totaled 84 and the Austria 2 and USA team each finished with 78 points.

Both Connely and the doubles team of Moffat (Mike) & Albrecht brought maximum points to the overall total with first place finishes in their respective categories. Top Canadian female athlete, Nicole
Simon added another 24 points to clinch the Silver Medal - Canada's best ever results in the Nations Cup Team competition!

The Canada 2 Team of Chris Moffat (men's singles), Regan Lauscher (women's) and double's team Chris Moffat and Eric Pothier also made the top 10 with 55 points.

Competition continues over the weekend with Men's singles on Saturday, Feb 13 and the Double's and Women's race running on Sunday.
