Canadians finish 1-2 in junior World Cup luge event

Canadian PressIan Cockerline and Sam Edney, both of Calgary, finished first and second at a World Cup junior luge event on Friday. Cockerline and Edney, both 16, posted two-run times of one minute 29.257 seconds and 1:29.777 respectively. "All week I wanted to hear our anthem," said Cockerline. "Today I got my wish and a little more."

Said Edney: "When I found out I was in fifth place after the first run I made a goal of trying to finish on the podium. We are all very happy with the one-two finish for Canada."

Andi Langenhan of Germany was third in 1:29.910.

In the under-20 division, Calgary's Ryan Paton and Jorgen Krause both crashed and finished 26th and 31st respectively.

Meaghan Simister of Calgary, 14, placed seventh among under-17 women on Saturday.
